Housing and Property Service - Despatch Service.

Responsible to the Despatch Services Co-ordinator for the correct distribution of school meals, internal and external mail to City Council premises, schools and recipients of Council correspondence

What is the role?

Driving manual vehicles from the Portsmouth City Council Fleet.

Responsible for maintaining your vehicle, Do vehicle check with line manager weekly

Checking the tyres, oil, and windscreen washers. (Weekly)

Clean your vehicle at end of term

Despatch Assistant/Driver is responsible for the distribution of PCC internal mail throughout Portsmouth and the surrounding areas following routes and times on a rota system as set out by the Despatch Supervisor

Distribution of School meals from production kitchens to school dinning halls following routes and times. Using strict guidelines on quality standards.

Couriering same day deliveries for PCC services

Sorting and delivering Internal mail from Royal Mail sacks first thing in the morning, continuing a delivery service to locations within the Civic offices using the necessary trolley collecting for external post for posting

All of external mail collected from within the Civic and external locations are franked using a franking machine

The Despatch assistant/driver will be required to assist with Portering, moving furniture, delivering parcels and clearing the recycling/confidential waste bins.

You will be part of a Despatch Assistant/driver team under the supervision of the Despatch Supervisor.

Who is the person?

Two weeks of your annual leave entitlement must be taken during the school holiday periods.

Leave must be determined and co-ordinated so that only one person from the school delivery team is absent at any one time.

Occasional overtime may be required

You may be required to undertake other duties including Portering.

Uniform must be worn at all times.

Be prepared to use a bicycle

You need to have:

1. Have a full clean driving licence, with a good knowledge of Portsmouth and surrounding areas.

2. Be able to work alone or in a small team with minimal supervision

3. Be physically able to carry out the full range of duties

4. Good customer service skills

5. Be flexible as you may on some occasions be required to work overtime.

6. Basic computer skills as you will be required to use Microsoft outlook, Microsoft Word.
