What is the role?

To assist our frailer, older residents with maintaining their independence and well-being and to contribute to the purpose of Sheltered Housing which is to provide the right accommodation with support when needed.

As Scheme Manager you will take overall responsibility for the management of a category 2.5 sheltered scheme, ensuring the overall welfare of all its residents.

Part of the role will include meeting and greeting new tenants, introducing them to the scheme and making them aware of the service that they can expect.

You will be responsible for ensuring the completion and updating of needs and risk assessments and support plans, as well as the carrying out of all necessary scheme checks, for example, relating to the alarm system and health and safety issues.

You will directly line manage a team of Support Assistants who you will effectively direct, supervise and assist where needed to provide a range of housing related support services to residents.

You will manage staff rotas to ensure consistent service provision and ensure 24 hour scheme cover. You will deal with all staff management issues, including the management of absence in accordance with the city council's policy.

You will act as an advocate for residents when working with other agencies and you will be acting as a link to social services, ensuring residents are aware of appropriate support services. Your role also requires you to respond to incidents & problems relating to the residents, to accurately record information & incident reports and liase with members of the residents' families.

As Scheme Manager, you will also encourage social activities in the scheme, and have overall responsibility for the security and safety of the scheme. This will involve arranging repairs and liaising with contractors to ensure a high standard of work. You will also be responsible for ensuring that all monies collected are properly recorded and accounted for.

Who is the person?

You need to have:

1. The knowledge and ability to deal with staff management issues effectively, confidentially and professionally. 2. The ability to ensure that staff resources are deployed effectively. 3. Experience of working directly (face to face) with people 4. Have an understanding of the role of Social Services, Health Services and voluntary agencies in the provision of services to people 5. The ability to prioritise workloads and self manage your time effectively 6. Have good verbal and written skills as you will be liaising with people at all levels - e.g. responding to correspondence from GP's and social workers, compiling reports for resident and staff files and investigating and responding to formal complaints. 7. The ability to work alongside other agencies and get the best outcome for residents. 8. An awareness of the importance of confidentiality when working with older persons. 9. The ability to understand and adhere to professional boundaries. 10. The confidence and ability to work effectively to solve problems and respond to emergencies as they arise. 11. A caring nature that works to enable people to maintain their independence in their own home as long as possible. 12. Patience and listening skills to find out what residents' and staff expectations are of you. 13. The physical ability to participate in moving and handling of people tasks. 14. Be self - motivated and be able to use your own initiative whilst recognising and understanding policies and procedures in pace. 15. The ability to promote social activities in the scheme. 16. Basic IT skills, including use of Microsoft Outlook and experience of using Word/Excel. Be able to use in house databases as required. 17. Be willing to attend relevant job training. 18. Use of a car would be an advantage, although not essential, as you may be required to cover other managers' absence in other schemes.
