Portsmouth Museums and Visitor Services is responsible for the care of the city's museum collections - comprising some 0.5 million items that document the history and culture of the city - and for making them accessible for people to enjoy. We also provide an excellent welcome to the city for visitors.

As well as the D-Day Museum and Visitor Information Centre, the service is also responsible for Southsea Castle, Portsmouth Museum, Dickens' Birthplace, Cumberland House and Eastney Beam Engine House.

The Transforming the D-Day Museum project will create an inspiring and accessible environment, providing learning opportunities for everyone, developed in partnership with the people who will use the museum and its collections. It will also position the museum as the UK D-Day hub.

This role is varied and will involve a number of tasks to support the development phase of this project. Your duties will include:

Work on the museum collections - photographing, measuring and weighing objects and adding information to the museum database for example - also assisting with enquiries from the public and helping to get collections out of store

Assisting with the consultation of user and non-user groups - such as schools and visitors to the museum - and carrying out small projects to test ideas for new activities for the museum.

A flexible approach is essential as you will need to work on different elements of the project as required and at a number of museum sites.
