Job Role: Cafe Assistant

Salary: £5,906.16 per annum.

Hours: 18 hours per week, Mon - Sat, (job share considered - 2 x 9 hour per week posts), Initial 1 year fixed-term contract.

Location: The Salvation Army, Haven Community Centre, Portsmouth Package/Benefits: 25 days annual leave and 8 public holidays (pro rata); a defined contribution pension scheme; child care vouchers; opportunities for further training.

Job description:

We are looking for someone to help support the work of The Salvation Army by the efficient and effective day to day assistance in the café.

Key Responsibilities:

Taking orders and payments from customers, serving customers with their food and drink orders and clearing tables, organise the tea bar and ensure condiment stock levels are maintained, assist in the supervision, training and recruitment of volunteers, cash handling, ensure that all work carried out in the café is in accordance with legislation and Salvation Army policies and procedures.

The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate:

Excellent customer service skills.

Some retail experience, including cash handling.

Flexibility and reliability in order to meet the needs of the cafe.

Awareness of health & food hygiene best practice. Maths and English GSCE grade C (or equivalent).
