Who are we looking for?
A supervising Social Worker to support Portsmouth's foster carers on the Isle of Wight.

The team:
The Fostering Team recruits, assesses, trains and supports and manages prospective foster carers. It also provides support, supervision and management of foster carers and supported lodgings carers.
The Fostering Support Team provides support, supervision and management to all of the foster carers and Supported Lodgings Carers approved by Portsmouth City Council. It aims to provide a choice of carers for Portsmouth children and young people requiring foster and supported lodgings placements and family link support.
The team offers a range of long-term, short term, emergency and short break placements to meet the needs of children and young people within the Portsmouth Area. There is a range of skill levels of foster carers to meet the diverse needs of the children in their care. Training is provided to ensure that carers are skilled to care for the needs of the children that they care for.
You will:
1. Have a Diploma or Degree in social work and be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council. Evidence of post qualifying experience would be an advantage. 2. Have experience of working in a social care setting, this can include placements. 3. Have a good working knowledge of theory and legislation including the Children act 89/04 amongst others. 4. Support foster carers on the Isle of Wight. 5. Promote, assess and recruit foster carers on the Isle of Wight. 6. Possess good communication skills and be equally comfortable speaking with children and other professionals from external partners and agencies. You will be facilitating the local support group. 7. Have good written skills, the ability to write reports and present evidence in a clear and concise way. 8. Possess good analytical skills to aid you in your assessment of child protection cases. 9. Be someone who enjoys a busy atmosphere who can cope with competing demands and the stresses that comes with them. 10. Be motivated to achieve good outcomes for children. 11. Have an understanding of anti-oppressive practice and the legislative framework around this. 12. Be a person who wants to be part of the team and actively encourages inter team support. 13. Be computer literate, who is comfortable using MS word, outlook and databases. 14. Have skills in tact and diplomacy - someone who is able to empathise with service users. 15. Attend regular weekly meetings in Portsmouth.
You will be home-based. We will pay travel expenses for 1 journey to Portsmouth per week.
