We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Microbiology to join our successful, enthusiastic and friendly team.  At Lecturer level you will be expected to have a doctoral qualification with knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical and clinical microbiology, the capacity to successfully teach microbiology to undergraduate and postgraduate students and to supervise postgraduate research students, scientific or clinical research experience in areas linked to the School’s interests, relevant publications in peer reviewed journals of international standing, the capacity to seek external research funding, and will be able to develop your teaching, scholarship and research activities.  At Senior Lecturer level there are additional expectations towards co-ordination of the teaching and research activities of others, development of our educational programmes, and capacity to secure research funding and publish in high impact journals.   

 

The School’s research interests of most relevance to the advertised post are in methods for detection and characterisation of microbial contaminants of petrochemicals, epidemiology and pathology of extended spectrum β-lactamase-producing organisms , and yeast ion channels.  Other of the School’s research interests include cellular and molecular medicine, neuroscience (physiology, anatomy and oncology), ion channel research, clinical immunology, biomaterials and drug delivery, bionanotechnology, molecular design, environmental chemistry, pharmacy practice and drug safety.

 

You will be based in the Pharmaceutical Science Division of the School of Pharmacy & Biomedical Sciences which has an establishment of one Reader, three Principal Lecturers, six Lecturers/Senior Lecturers and two Senior Research Fellows. Your teaching commitments will be predominantly to our MPharm programme and but will also include other courses in the School’s teaching portfolio.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to the School to make presentations, meet with staff and for interview.  This is provisionally scheduled for 16th February, 2015.
