Portsmouth adult substance misuse (drug and alcohol) services are based on a Recovery Oriented Integrated System (ROIS). At the heart of the model is planning around recovery journeys, ensuring that services are accessible to all who need them and support access to a full range of interventions. We are looking for a worker who has the skills to motivate and support clients in their recovery journey, will work creatively and show a high level of commitment and energy in achieving positive outcomes for their clients.
Your role will be to;
carry out person-centred, holistic assessment of needs for individuals seeking support to overcome drug/alcohol problems; use appropriate tools such as ITEP node mapping to support person centred recovery oriented planning; support people to access a full range of interventions that facilitate their personal recovery journey; participate in the delivery of a full range of interventions that facilitate client's personal recovery journey; negotiate, liaise and advocate with partner agencies to support access to, and continued engagement with, effective treatment and support; work in partnership with service users, family members, carers, mutual aid and volunteer peer support workers to enable people to progress their recovery; review all plans jointly with service users and other concerned individuals at agreed frequency and/or in response to identified changing needs; complete all required data collection and administrative recording to evidence progress and achievement of agreed recovery outcomes; support people to progress through treatment into independent, long-term sustainable recovery; work flexibly in response to service users' needs and changing levels of risk to deliver an intensive, responsive and flexible service; support the practice lead in developing a positive, recovery focused team culture; facilitate and coordinate self-directed support for service users by empowering them to play an active role in identifying their needs and identifying how they can be met; be an active member of recovery networks within the organisation and across the Recovery Integrated Orientated System; oversee the operation of the needle exchange project and liaise with participating pharmacies; oversee the ordering of injecting equipment; provide harm minimisation advice around safer injecting and overdose prevention to service users and professionals; keep up to date with development and innovation around needle exchange provision; provide outreach as appropriate; coordinate peer education strategies around safer injecting and overdose prevention.
Who is the person?
You need to:
1. Be able to demonstrate through qualification and/or experience Drug and Alcohol National Occupational Standards competency;
2. Have an understanding of behavioural principles, and the ability to work within these principles to empower people to achieve recovery;
3. Have good engagement and assessment skills;
4. Have good motivational interviewing skills and a thorough understanding of the principles underlying this approach;
5. Have a thorough understanding of safeguarding legislation relating to children and adults and have attended safeguarding training;
6. Have excellent partnership working skills as you will be working collaboratively with statutory and voluntary agencies;
7. Have knowledge and experience of issues relating to social exclusion and be adaptable, flexible and inclusive to meet the needs of people from diverse communities with a range of needs;
8. Have knowledge of issues affecting the delivery of services to vulnerable people and their families;
9. Have good IT skills, including the ability to use databases/case management systems;
10. Be able to operate as a team player with honesty, transparency and practice reflective learning;
11. Have excellent communication skills with the ability to provide information clearly in writing and verbally;
12. Have good organisational and planning skills to be able to manage a caseload of clients, demonstrating skill in time management, prioritise the evolving needs of the client and service and keep appropriate records;
13. Have the ability to maintain the highest level of professional knowledge and willing to undertake personal training and development to fulfil the needs of the role;
14. Be focused on assisting people to achieve positive outcomes within a recovery system;
15. Have an in-depth knowledge around health issues relating to injecting and strategies for minimising the harm caused by injecting;
16. Have knowledge around injecting techniques and equipment;
17. Hold a full driving license.

37 hours per week, working evening and weekends as required.
