Working as a casual despatch driver you will only be contacted to work as and when required and this may be contact at short notice.

You will be responsible for the correct distribution of school meals, internal and external mail to City Council premises, schools and recipients of council correspondence on a casual basis to cover absence of current staff and high demand.

Holding a current driving licence for a manual vehicle, you will drive council vehicles to deliver mail and meals to relevant City Council buildings and you will follow the routes and times as set out by the Despatch Service. Also the delivery of meals to schools will require you to adhere to quality standards as set out by the Despatch Service.

The role will involve heavy lifting and other physical activity, as well as a lot of daily driving.

Training Programme

If successful you must be immediately available for training, length of training will depend on performance and knowledge minimum one week 4hrs per day.

Who are we looking for?

You need to have:

• A full clean driving licence and be a confident driving around Portsmouth in council vehicles. • The ability to carry out physical duties involved in the post such, as carrying heavy mail bags etc... • A good knowledge of the Portsmouth area as you will be required to delivery to all areas of the City. • The flexibility & reliability at short notice to cover hours as & when they are available. • A proactive attitude to team working and willing to support your colleagues as required. • Good interpersonal and customer service skills as you will be the front face of the Despatch Service.
