The University of Portsmouth has a history of teaching in clinical subjects and is expanding academic development in new and emerging health fields. We are committed to providing the students on our courses with a sound knowledge base that will prepare them to be safe and effective practitioners. We have a commitment to innovative learning methodologies, supported by superb simulation resources.

A full-time Senior Lecturer with experience of teaching operating department practice to health science students is required. The successful applicant will have a sound background in operating department practice and will have registered status with the Health & Care Professions Council. Experience in teaching and assessment in the Higher Education sector is an advantage, as is experience in working in a critical care setting.

This is predominantly a teaching position, but participation in scholarly activity and research is expected. The successful applicant will be supported in these activities, both within and outside the School and will be expected to make a contribution to the teaching and supervision of students on relevant undergraduate programmes, such as BSc (Hons) Paramedic Science, DipHE/BSc (Hons) Operating Department Practice and BSc (Hons) Human Physiology.

The successful applicant will contribute specifically to lecturing and delivering practical classes including the use of simulation in part-task training. Applicants should have an Honours degree in an appropriate discipline or equivalent qualifications and clinical experience. Experience in the use of computer-aided learning, directed self-learning, small group work and facilitated problem-based learning would be an advantage, as would the ability to teach some aspects within the broader area of healthcare.

The successful applicant will be appointed on the Senior Lecturer Scale according to qualifications and experience.
