The University of Portsmouth spends over £60m on external goods and services each year. The central Procurement team is responsible for obtaining best value for this expenditure and ensuring that University procurement regulations and Public Sector Procurement legal requirements are followed. The Procurement Manager provides professional leadership for the team, as well as leading on procurement activities across the full range of commodity areas, across the University.
The successful candidate will have excellent negotiation skills, prior experience of improving procurement systems and will have the necessary personal skills to form strong and lasting networks, both across the organization and with external stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be able to understand and progress a strategic approach to procurement.
The successful candidate will also have full CIPS membership, and will be conversant with the legal framework pertinent to public sector purchasing. Applicants from outside the Higher Education sector are welcomed. Applications from candidates without extensive relevant procurement experience will not be considered.
