The University of Portsmouth in collaboration with Magma Structures BP Ltd are developing a capability to diversify the company’s world class expertise in large composite marine systems into other sectors such as oil and gas, construction and defence.


This is an excellent opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to join us as a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Associate.  KTP is one of Europe’s largest graduate recruitment programmes, enabling graduates to lead projects in industry while benefitting from University research collaboration.


Based at Magma Structures’ facility in Portsmouth you will help lead the development and implementation of a procedure for evaluating enquiries from potential customers that are additional to the current core business of marine composite structures. To achieve this you will apply research & knowledge in sector standards, engineering design, materials selection and manufacturing processes e.g. carbon composite mouldings.  You will develop a knowledge-based capability for customer enquiry analysis and the creation of innovative proposals.


You will benefit from a KTP training & development budget, a range of customer, supplier and trade interfaces, and you will be supported in working towards Chartered Engineer status.


We are seeking a good Hons graduate with masters or doctoral qualifications and appropriate project, placement or work experience in an area of mechanical, Yacht design & Engineering, aeronautics/aerospace, materials, or manufacturing engineering or equivalent, including:

·         Strong background or capability to build knowledge on composite technology with respect to                   materials and process of manufacturing.

·         Knowledge and experience in design engineering process and design &/ analysis tools such as:             Nastran CADCAM/ CATIA / Creo / Ansys / Abaqus.

·         Strong core skills in communication, team work, numeracy, reporting and project management.
