The University of Portsmouth wishes to recruit a Senior Exchanges and Study Abroad Officer within its International Office. 


The post acts as Erasmus+ Institutional Coordinator to manage the University’s student exchange programmes (Erasmus+ and non-Erasmus+) and staff exchange programmes (Erasmus+ only) involving over 160 overseas University partners worldwide.  In addition the post holder is responsible for managing and directing the work of the Exchanges and Study Abroad Officer.


The role involves liaison with partner institutions and a wide range of University of Portsmouth academic and administrative staff to monitor, process, report and encourage the growth of overseas partnerships and staff and student mobility whilst also ensuring compliance with both internal and external quality regulations.  The post holder shall also supervise the support and administration of outgoing University of Portsmouth students and staff, and incoming students from partner universities before and during their placements.  The role shall also require oversight of the implementation of the new online mobility data base, and the development of marketing and promotional strategies to encourage more students to undertake overseas study or work placements, and more staff to consider teaching or training placements.


You will have a good working knowledge of the Higher Education sector, knowledge of different cultures and the implications of studying abroad, and knowledge of the European Union/Commission’s programmes to support staff and student mobility.

You will possess excellent marketing, communication and interpersonal skills and will be able to demonstrate an ability to work proactively and independently.


A good UK honours degree, or equivalent professional experience, is required.  Previous experience of dealing with external audits/compliance and/or applications for external grants would be advantageous, as would participation in an international student exchange programme, or of living, working or studying overseas. This position will require some overseas travel with extended and irregular working hours.  You must hold an EU or EAA passport and be eligible for visa-free travel throughout the European Union and visa-waiver entry status to the United States and Canada.
