The Company


Business Edge Ltd is a specialist company operating in the air conditioning and refrigeration technology market.  The company provides design and development services, product build and test, consultancy, distribution of specialist equipment and technical training and certification services to the industry.  Production level machines are now to be developed, with input and engineering collaboration with the University of Portsmouth in a Knowledge Transfer Partnership Programme. Consequently, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to undertake a wide range of design, build, test and other activities, including field work. 


The design and development of both existing machines and new machines is envisaged and the post provides an ideal opportunity to expand your knowledge beyond mechanical engineering and into the field of air conditioning and refrigeration. 


The company has developed a high speed, oil-free compression technology and you will have the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing needs of this project.


The Role


You will be required to work on the construction of machines, provide technical support and training to clients on the ClimaCheck technology and work as part of a team comprising very talented engineers.


Knowledge and experience of FMEA is required.  You must also be conversant with 3D modelling software (SolidWorks an advantage). Knowledge of precision engineering, tolerances, materials, machining processes, bearing technology and pressure containment would also be an advantage.


You will work closely with the Directors and other Mechanical Design Engineers and be supported by an academic team from the University of Portsmouth throughout the project.


You will be encouraged to join the Institute of Mechanical Engineers or Institute of Engineering and Technology and work towards chartered status.


We are looking for a recent Masters graduate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with:

·         Knowledge of mechanical engineering design

·         Knowledge of materials, processes and manufacturing to close tolerances

·         Knowledge of design for manufacture

·         Experience of FMEA / stress analysis
