The Green & Clean team works within Portsmouth City Council's (PCC) Housing Management service, and are responsible for the cleaning and grounds maintenance in all Local Authority Housing Communal Areas as well as some other PCC buildings and land including libraries, community centres and public toilets.

What is the role?

To work as part of the Green & Clean team based at the Housing Depot to provide support to the Green & Clean team by carrying out a variety of tasks. These will include

Providing cover to collect bulk refuse during periods of absence by the Housing Depot Bulk team, collection of Green waste from Housing & Property Services and non-Housing Property Services sites as directed as well as the correct disposal of this waste.



You will also be required to provide cover to carry out cleaning tasks to the communal areas of Housing Property Services sites and non-Housing Property Services sites such as Public Conveniences to meet the purposes of both "Keeping the Local Area Clean & Tidy" and "Providing Suitable Help Outside of Office Hours".

You will also be required to report other cleaning, gardening demands, communal housing repairs and any other issues such as fly tipping to the Bulk Admin team or Out of Hours team.

Due to the continued development of the service and new varied demand hitting the service, and the need to cover both planned and unplanned absence you may also be required to cover other duties or extended shifts for which flexible working arrangements will be allowed. This will include some evening and weekend work.

As a Green & Clean Support Operative you will be required to drive or act as drivers mate; driving a 3.5 tonne or 7.5 tonne caged tipper or similar, to collect waste. This waste will then be disposed of in accordance with legislation and regulations at local amenity sites licensed to receive and process such waste. Supermarket trolleys are also collected and removed from those housing sites within the Portsmouth City Council local authority area (i.e. not Havant, Gosport and Fareham or Hampshire).



Who is the person?

You need to:

1. Have good knowledge of the local area, including the names of blocks as well as roads; including Wecock Farm, Leigh Park, Crookhorn and Portsmouth City areas 2. Hold a full driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points and as a minimum be able to drive 3.5 tonne vehicles. The ability to drive a 7.5 tonne vehicle and tow a trailer is also a requirement and training will be given to the successful candidate to ensure the full range of duties can be carried out. - Driving is an essential requirement for this role 3. Be able to carry out both internal & external cleaning tasks across the housing estates, public conveniences and other areas when required. 4. Be physically fit and have an understanding of the health and safety risk assessments with particular regard to manual handling a wide variety of items. 5. You are also expected to risk assess the health and safety of sites and items when you arrive and carry out your work with a duty of care for yourself and others (this includes members of the public). You also need to be aware of hazards such as drug paraphernalia and chemicals that may have been dumped. 6. As you will be coming into regular contact with residents and tenants and constant contact with the Out of Hours Team and Bulk Admin Team good communication skills are desirable. 7. To be flexible and adaptable to the developing needs of the service as and when required. To include weekend and evening/early morning working as required.
