WWhat is a Personal Assistant (PA)?

A PA is a person who is paid to give someone support. The support that you can give as a PA can be anything from helping to put someone's socks on in the morning, to driving them to places, to preparing their meals to personal care. You chose what job you want to do which suits your life and abilities.

The PA Noticeboard is a recruitment website for local people to hire PAs and for prospective PAs to find work. Portsmouth City Council manages and supports clients and PAs to use the PA Noticeboard to post their jobs and CVs. There are no criteria's or qualifications required to register on the PA Noticeboard, just a desire to support and work with people.

On the PA Noticeboard you can browse vacancies to find a role with the tasks and hours that suit you. Because the individual/client writes their own job description, there will be a wide range of job roles and hours available. Common tasks might involve personal care, assisting with meals, social support, shopping and domestic tasks such as ironing and hoovering.

How does it work?

If you are a person looking for work and are interested in being a PA, you can register on the site and complete the CV questions. Once your CV has been review and published you will then be able to look at the PA vacancies listed on the site and apply directly for roles you want and employers will be able to contact you if they like your CV.

The employer pays you directly and you are entitled to all of the same terms and conditions as you would be if you were working for a company. The service creates a contract for you and your employer and supports you throughout the process and within your role.
