The School of Education and Childhood Studies is seeking to employ 2 Lecturers in Education Studies. One is a full-time post and one is a maternity cover post for 7 months. Expected start date is 4th January 2017.
The successful candidates will join a thriving University with an ambitious new strategic vision and a growing and dynamic team of education and childhood studies researchers.
Full-time position
The postholder for the full-time position will be expected to contribute to the top-up degree BA Education Studies, MSc Educational Leadership and Management and/or the new MA Education Studies, and the undergraduate degrees in Childhood Studies. In particular, we are looking for an individual who can:
a. Contribute to future curriculum development and design related to the department’s CPD work in education studies, education policy and educational leadership and management (in one or more of the following areas: schools, FE and HE)
b. Deliver parts of the revised core curriculum in childhood studies
c. Design and deliver an optional module in their area of expertise
d. Develop closer links with regional employers (county and city councils, youth organisations, multi-agency teams)
In addition, depending on the successful candidate’s areas of expertise, there will be an opportunity to contribute to PhD supervision and to the planning of the Professional Doctorate in Education (2017 start).
It will also be expected that the successful candidate will be able to contribute to the growing research area in SECS related to the links between Education and Health/Well-Being (multi-agency working with children, families, care leavers, educational interventions etc) and education policy.
The successful candidate will have completed a relevant PhD/Professional Doctorate (or be very close to completion) and will be an active researcher with evidence of publications/potential to publish.
Lecturer in Education Studies: maternity cover post
The postholder will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate degrees in Childhood Studies between 3rd January and the end of July 2017, in particular supervising dissertation projects and contributing to contemporary and global issues in childhood units.
Applicants for both posts are expected to have a background in one or more of the following disciplines: Education Studies (including Educational Leadership and Management), Policy Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Childhood Studies.
