Postdoctoral Researcher in Image Processing for Assisted Living

An exciting opportunity has opened up in the Intelligent and Networked Systems Research Group in the School of Engineering for a suitably qualified Postdoctoral Researcher to work on innovative applications of image processing and Artificial Intelligence for Assisted Living.

Assisted Living is concerned with the use of technological solutions to improve wellbeing and quality of life for people in residential environments.  This emerging area of research is attracting significant attention and investment from both the Government and industry due to its vital role for future health and care services.

The project will utilise a new bespoke research facility, the Port-Eco House, to develop techniques for recognition of Activities of Daily Living (ADL) from optical sensor data in real-life residential environments. The aim of this work is to develop research demonstrators and prototype systems that can be used in normal residential settings to ensure health, safety and wellbeing of occupants.

This project builds on prior research work on Assisted Living carried out in the Intelligent and Networked Systems Research Group and aims to capitalise on the University of Portsmouth’s commitment to, and investment in, the priority research area of health and wellbeing. You will be working as part of a vibrant team of academic staff and research students in the School of Engineering, with excellent facilities, growing research profile, and strong industry links.

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience of using image processing and/or Artificial Intelligence methods (such as machine learning and/or data mining), and will be expected to contribute to research outputs and activities, including publications, seminars, conferences, and research funding bids.

The start date will be March 2017 or earlier if possible. The details of the position are described in the job description and person specification, which are available from the University of Portsmouth online application system. Applications (application form, CV, publication list and research statement) should be submitted via the online application system by the closing date.
