Interview date: 20 March 2017

The University of Portsmouth is seeking to recruit a new Teaching Fellow (3 years, fixed term) to join its friendly and vibrant School of Civil Engineering and Surveying.  The new position is part of a strategic investment to support existing staff in developing their Research and Innovation activities.  In this role, you will be required to provide significant specialist teaching support to one or more staff in our existing research groups (Environmental Technology and Management; Materials, Structures and Geotechnics; Construction Management and Surveying).  The subject area will depend on your expertise, and is likely to include laboratory work.  Existing teaching material will be provided, but you will be free to develop the material yourself.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, and be able to engage, motivate and support students, making significant contributions to teaching and assessment, and making a positive impact on the student experience.  Preference will be given to candidates who are able to provide teaching support across a number of subject areas relevant to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses offered by the School.

The School has an excellent staff-student relationship, high levels of staff and student satisfaction, and healthy undergraduate and postgraduate recruitment to a broad range of fully accredited ICE and RICS courses, supported by good links with industry, practice and the professional institutions.  Full support is provided to develop your academic skills through the APEX Programme and a post-graduate qualification, if required.

We welcome applications from all qualified applicants, but applications are particularly encouraged from traditionally under-represented groups. The University of Portsmouth holds an Athena Swan bronze award and is committed to introduce organisational and cultural practices that promote gender equality and create a better working environment for men and women.  The School has a Flexible Working policy, which is able to support working arrangements for those with caring responsibilities.

For an informal discussion about this post, please contact Dominic Fox, Head of School of Civil Engineering and Surveying
