Music Teacher : Portsmouth Music Service - Fixed term contract to August 31st 2018, although this may be extended.

Salary: The rate of pay is linked to teachers' pay scales and is determined by the experience and qualifications of the person appointed

Hours per week: To be agreed with post holder, according to instrumental and curriculum expertise.

There are a number of part-time posts available and these could be combined to make a more substantial post according to the applicant's expertise.

Portsmouth Music Service has an office base c/o Paulsgrove Community Centre, Marsden Road, Paulsgrove, Portsmouth, PO6 4JB.

What is the role?

The teaching is in primary and secondary schools during term-time. Your responsibilities will include: • teaching curriculum music according to National Curriculum requirements • teaching instrumental lessons (instrument by agreement according to demand) • planning and teaching lively and engaging lessons • assessing pupils' learning and progress • recording and reporting on pupil progress as required • developing and maintaining an effective relationship with schools • maintaining good order among pupils with particular regard to their health and safety • participating in arrangements for training and professional development; keeping up to date with best practice in music education including appraisal • following the policies and protocols of the Music Service and Portsmouth City Council at all times • carrying out any other duties as may reasonably be required • the post-holder will be accountable to the Head of Portsmouth Music Service and line managed by a member of the Senior Leadership Team

Who is the person?

You need to:

1. be an experienced, committed and effective teacher 2. be able to engage and enthuse primary age children 3. be able to communicate effectively at all levels 4. be able to plan and teach curriculum music to whole classes 5. have in-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum 6. be well organised and professional in presentation 7. be flexible to accommodate the needs of the Music Service and schools
