Interview date: 01 June 2017

The Faculty of Science is looking for a passionate individual who wishes to build a career as an Animal Technician. You will bring your existing animal competency and other relevant skills to support and enhance the service we provide to the research and teaching activities of the Faculty.

As part of a small team, you will work in our busy, multi-species Bioresources unit. You will draw on all areas of your experience as work is varied and driven by ever changing scientific demand.  Husbandry, animal care and welfare skills and record keeping activities under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 form the core of this post.

Recent new investment has brought Zebra Fish to the facility, so knowledge, skills and experience of this species would be a distinct advantage. However, if you have transferable knowledge and skills from working with small rodents, are willing to show commitment to animal care and welfare and can demonstrate flexibility and the ability to acquire new skills to enable you to become multi-skilled across all species cared for by our team, this will also be considered.

In addition, professionalism, good communication skills, an ability to organise and prioritise work load and a commitment to providing the highest quality of service is essential.

There is scope within this role to support research conducted under the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and it is expected that the post holder will already possess or be willing to gain specific Animal Technology qualifications and licenced competencies.
