Teachers in Portsmouth are planning a strike in March over wages and working conditions. The planned strike should take place on 26th March, affecting thousands of pupils across various schools. The new strike action in March comes after a planned strike back in December was cancelled in a bid for teachers to talk through their concerns. The unions involved have revealed the teachers last met with with officials back in October and nothing has been discussed since.

Many Portsmouth teachers are unhappy with their job conditions, and disagree with the new performance-related pay scheme. Teachers want to meet with government officials but the talks keep being put off and it appears the strike threats are not being taken seriously. There has been no attempt to even talk through the matters in hand, let alone solve the issues.

The teachers have openly said they want to discuss their concerns and strike action is a last resort, however no government officials have come forward as of yet to try to resolve the issues, and once again it is the pupils’ education that will suffer.
