Building work has now finished on the new Tesco store in Rowner, Gosport– and now the supermarket giant is looking for staff. The new Tesco store in Gosport may still be just an empty shell, but already jobs are being advertised at the new store.
Tescos are working with Job Centre Plus to provide guaranteed interviews for a number of long term unemployed people.
Councillor Graham Burgess is the deputy leader of Gosport Borough Council.
He said: “It’s wonderful news. Having a new superstore on the doorstep will make life easier for the residents of Gosport. It’s a great boost for the area. Tesco is very impressed by the calibre of candidates applying from the local area.”
The new Tesco store is planned to open in the early summer.
It is part of the multi-million pound Rowner Renewal Project.
The project as a whole will bring circa 500 new homes with parks and play areas
In addition to the new homes and the Tesco store, there will be three smaller retail units which will open in the early summer.
The Rowner Renewal Partnership launched the renewal project in 2007 to make the area safer and more attractive.
It also aims to introduce better transport and access to jobs.
The Renewal Partnership consists of five member organisations including First Wessex, Gosport Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, the Homes and Communities Agency and Taylor Wimpey.
