Portsmouth is one of the bigger cities along the south coast of the UK. It is a thriving University city and home to Pompey football with some avid fans. Portsmouth is also where the UK’s Royal Navy has its home, with plenty of naval history on offer to visit in the city.

Portsmouth is also home to one of the largest arms manufacturers, Astrim, employing more than 1,000 people in the city.

Other sectors across the city also employ a large number of people, including the ICT industry with names such as IBM having an office based in Portsmouth. The city centre has also grown in previous years, with a number of new retail shops and bars, catering for the many students the University. Tourism in Portsmouth also generates thousands of jobs for people in the city. It’s been reported that an estimated 1 in 4 people in the city work in the public sector.
